There is a moment in "No Problem" when we realize that we are not in the right place. We don't talk about it much because we live our lives and go about our business, but sometimes when you're in a cramped living room watching TV one evening, there's a little voice at the back of your head telling you that this isn't quite right. You find yourself wondering if this building is safe or if there's even enough food to prevent another war between humans and mutants. It doesn't seem like these lines could be any further apart than they already are--but it turns out they can be much closer than you think. Gerry Lester (Sage Stallone) is the class doormat at his high school. He gets picked on all the time, but he's used to it. One day, however, everything changes when Lawrence Bullock (Anthony Michael Hall) starts picking on him at school. They're both after the same girl--Sally--and she takes a liking to Bullock instead of Gerry. Gerry turns to his father for advice, but he calls him "Gerry" instead of "Son" so it doesn't really help. After Sally runs off in tears, Gerry has an epiphany in the bathroom. Maybe he isn't the loser in this situation. He might be able to make Lawrence Bullock like him if he changes his name and starts acting like a better person. While it's certainly not the best idea, it winds up working out well for both of them when Lester takes on the name "Sage." While his father is out buying groceries, Garry goes into the bathroom to rename himself. When he comes back into the kitchen, he's got different clothes and a grumpy look on his face. His dad doesn't recognize him at first but when he does recognize him, he thinks that he looks "much more confident. ” This proves to be a crucial moment in the film because we learn that his dad does actually like him and doesn't want to see him get beat up. More importantly, though, it's also a turning point for Lester who learns that he can change other people's minds by merely adopting a new personality. Unfortunately, the idea works out well for Lester at first; he even has his girlfriend back. However, it doesn't take long before things start to go sour and Lester's father gets sick of following his every move and convinces him to quit school. At this point we realize something: we're not in the right place anymore and we should probably leave while we still can. "No Problem" was written and directed by Dan Sackheim, who is known for his work on "Louder Than Bombs" and "Miami Vice." It also features the talents of TOTY award winner Sage Stallone, along with Anthony Michael Hall, Ernie Hudson, Jeffrey Tambor, and Susan Pourfar. The film first premiered at the 2016 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal before being picked up for distribution by Breaking Glass Pictures.
